Posted by Nirupam Nigam on October 11th, 2023
If you were excited by the announcement of the Mantis Sub housing for the Insta360 Pro/Pro2 but it was just outside your budget, we've got exciting news! Mantis Sub has just announced their new Insta360 One RS 1-inch 360 edition underwater housing - a model that is more accessible to the diving public at $1749 for the housing. While this setup doesn't have the incredible 8K stereoscopic recording capability of the Insta 360 Pro2, it does offer incredible 6K/30p 360 footage that can be extremely useful for VR shooting and scientific applications that requires full coverage recording of an enclosed area in a small package. The camera is equipped with a 6-axis gyroscope and can record for up to 62 minutes. The camera can capture 21 megapixel 36 photos with a high quality 1" sensor produced by Leica.
What sets the Mantis Sub Housing Apart?
The Mantis Sub housing for the Insta360 One RS 1-inch 360 edition is particularly exciting because it does an amazing job at removing the "stitching" visible in lower quality housings. The video is clean and it is nearly impossible to find the transition point between the two domes.
This housing is perfectly equipped for technical diving applications with a depth rating of 250 meters/820 ft. When it comes to operating temperatures, the camera does not overheat due to the heat dissipating quality of anodized aluminum.
Finally, the housing is equipped with a bulkhead port that is compatible with the Blue Robotics M6 penetrator and plug. This allows users to give the camera additional offboard power or remote connection via usb-c.
Mantis Sub Housing Applications
Like it's "big brother", the Mantis Sub housing for the Insta360 One RS is perfect for a wide variety of applications - many of which have not been invented yet. With it's tiny size, it is perfect for entering enclosed environments for photogrammetry and industrial inspections. It's also a great camera for ROVs, capturing VR footage on dives, and monitoring. With 360 degree photo and video capabilities, it's the perfect tool for scientific surveys.
