iTorch Video Pro 7 Review

iTorch is well known for making high quality, high powered lights in small bodies. The lights are great for video with a wide beam angle and bright LED light. The iTorch Video Pro 7 is the newest in a line of popular lights, and takes things to the professional level.

5000 Lumens - perfect for adding color to daytime shooting

This is a professional style, high lumen video light. With a rating of 5000 lumens and a beam angle of 120 degrees, it is a perfect tool for gaining back the beautiful color that is lost underwater. The high lumen power allows you to create well exposed video, even when shooting up towards the surface during the day. You can compensate for the brighter background by stopping down the video exposure and using the lights to expose the foreground.

120 Degree Beam Angle

One issue with many video lights is the narrow beam angle, which means that the light will not fill the frame on the video. With the iTorch Pro 7, this is not an issue, the 120 degree beam angle creates even lighting with no hotspot across the entire frame. Use two lights when shooting wide angle with slight overlap to fill frames wider than 120 degrees.

Compact & Simple to Use

The iTorch Pro 7 stands apart from many of the other high lumen video lights primarily because of its size. The light is only about 5" long and weighs merely 1lb 2 oz (509g), including the battery.

It will attach easily to any camera system through the included YS-Mount.

User Replaceable Batteries and Easy to See Battery Life Indicator

Batteries are easy to charge and are replaceable. The large Lithium battery is built into the base of the light, simply unscrew the light head and plug into the charger. This design allows the user to purchase a spare battery which costs much less than the full light so a fully charged spare can always be on hand, a great option if you plan to do multiple dives and want to have a spare ready to go. In addition the battery compartment is sealed with a double o-ring for addition security.

The iTorch Video Pro 7 includes a battery indicator in the circle around the power button. It lights up green when fully charged, it changes from yellow then to red as the battery drains. One small downside I did notice, is that once the battery hits the red zone the power of the light will dim as well.

5 Power Modes to Control Light Level

The iTorch Pro 7 offers five levels of white light, which gives great control over the level of light output. You can even use this light for focusing if needed with two power levels of red LED light as well. Simply press and hold the button to turn on, then press the button to cycle through each mode. Press and hold again to turn off, its as simple as that.
