The Nauticam Canon EOS R50 underwater housing is a top-of-the-line housing designed specifically for the new Canon EOS R50 mirrorless APS-C camera. As a trailblazer in underwater housing technology, Nauticam consistently redefines the limits of what's possible. Their commitment to creating evolutionary, and at times revolutionary, products has set them apart as a go-to choice for imaging enthusiasts. A prime example of this dedication is the remarkable Nauticam Canon R50 Underwater housing - a compact powerhouse that encapsulates all the qualities that make Nauticam housings the preferred option for underwater photographers.
The Nauticam Canon EOS R50 underwater housing also features an ergonomic design, allowing you to easily access all of your camera's controls and functions while underwater. Its customizable handles and accessories ensure that you can get the perfect grip and balance for your shooting style.
Another great feature of this housing is its vacuum monitoring and leak detection system. This system ensures that your camera stays dry and safe at all times by monitoring the housing's vacuum level and alerting you if there is any drop in pressure.
Central to this cutting-edge system is the Canon RF-S 18-45 F4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens. Purposefully engineered, it stands as the ultimate RF lens for the Canon RF APS-C format in underwater settings. The integration is seamless, eliminating the need for extra maintenance, aligning perfectly with Nauticam's tradition of streamlined camera systems. While excelling in capturing the spectrum from wide to narrow fish portraits, the lens harmoniously pairs with Nauticam's exceptional WWL-1 or WWL-C for impeccably sharp wide-angle coverage, complete with full zoom capabilities, all within a pleasantly compact form factor. For those seeking versatility, Nauticam's Compact Macro Converter water contact optics can be seamlessly added, crafting an all-encompassing solution that fits effortlessly into a traveler's carry-on.
Compact and Versatile
The Nauticam NA-R50 underwater housing's dimensions are small enough for a person to carry it in their palm without a tray, measuring only 238mm (9.3in) broad, 150mm (5.9in) tall, and 115mm (4.5in) deep. When compared to earlier APS-C camera housings, the NA-R50 has an incredibly tiny footprint, making it very portable and appealing and the perfect travel friendly underwater housing and camera system.
Which is the preferred Wet Lens?
Nauticam has produced some ground breaking wet lens options, and thus offer variety and versatility. Both macro and super wide angle interchangeable optics can be available to the underwater photographer on the same dive:
Wide angle Options:
With the Canon RF-S 18-45 F4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens, the WWL-1B wide angle converter lens works beautifully. With the lens set at 18mm, the WWL-1B offers a crisp 130 degree diagonal field of view and offers maximum zoom through to about 60 degrees at 45mm. For incredible close focus wide angle capability, focus down-to-the-glass performance is possible at all focal lengths. Any wide angle lens behind a dome on a typical device performs less sharply overall than the all-glass WWL-1B lens.
Nauticam's Nauticam WWL-C wet lens offers a compact all-glass optic that is every bit as sharp as the WWL-1B for those who want an even smaller wide angle choice without sacrificing quality, but with a zoom range that offers 116 degrees at 18mm zooming to about 52 degrees at 45mm. The front optic is, of course, where it also concentrates.
Macro lens options:
The lightweight CMC-1 macro wet lens and CMC-2 lenses from Nauticam are highly recommended for superior image clarity and improved auto-focus performance. A 45mm focal length results in the maximum amplification. The CMC-1 is a touch more difficult but provides more magnification. While still providing a substantial 0.6X magnification, CMC-2 is a little more lenient.
Flash Triggering
The Canon EOS R50's pop-up flash is used for flash triggering with the NA-R50 underwater housing, allowing the addition of strobes with fiber optic connections simple to integrate. The R50 will have the choice of full TTL compatibility with strobes (either Ikelite or Sea & Sea strobes recommended) that offer STTL capability with fiber optics.
Integrated Vacuum Check and Leak Detection System
The NA-R50 comes pre-equipped with the Nauticam vacuum check and leak monitoring electronics. This monitoring system, in conjunction with an accessory M16 vacuum valve, continuously updates the housing's watertightness and dive-safety state. The user can easily tell whether the vacuum is stable or if the housing is losing vacuum thanks to a straightforward color-coded LED lighting system. Because leak monitoring is integrated into the same circuit, there will be an audible and visual alert if there is water intrusion.
The Canon EOS R50 Camera
