USED: Saga Magic Tube

Condition: Excellent

The Saga Magic Tube is a one of a kind, unique, must-have tool for underwater macro photographers. It allows you to create creative images with a reflecting circular effect around your subject. It is similar to a kaleidoscope - the tube threads into the front end of your macro port and reflects your subect on the inside of the tube, producing circular colors around your subject that are the same colors as your subject.

It has 67mm threading which is compatible with most macro ports in the market. It is made from a durable delrin material which makes it robust and durable. The magic tube is compatible with 100 and 105mm macro lenses. In our underwater tests we found that it also works great with the Sony 90mm macro lens.

The magic tube doesn't really affect your minimum focusing distance. You can still focus close with the tube, however, the end of the magic tube will act as the front of your lens. This can be beneficial, because it requires you to move your body and camera farther from the subject - which generally relaxes your subject and allows you to get closer with the tube. During our popular Anilao, Philippines workshop we tested the Saga magic tube underwater. We found that it was relatively easy to use because the tube requires that your focal points are in the middle. Because there are less focal points to choose from, it can be easier to lock focus. Lighting with the magic tube is similar with a macro lens. You just need to make sure your strobes are far enough forward that you can light your subject without a pattern. We were even able to light our subjects with snoots while using the magic tube, but it can be a slightly more difficult endeavour. All in all, the beautiful, one-of-a-kind photos we captured had us convinced that the magic tube is an essential tool for any macro photographer's tool kit.
