The Sony 50mm F1.2 FE GM lens is a compact wide-angle, large-aperture prime lens, and 50mm is perhaps the most sought-after focal length in prime lenses. Most photographers would choose a 50mm lens if they could only have one prime; it's an excellent all-rounder that can be used to shoot portraits, street scenes, products, and underwater subjects. It's also a great focal length for general videography. Being part of the elite G Master series of Sony lenses, it produces tack-sharp image quality. The lens performs flawlessly in low light conditions, as you'd expect, with a fast maximum aperture of F1.2. Images shot at F1.2 are even pin-sharp in the corners.
Weighing in at only 1.7 pounds and with a compact design, the Sony 50mm F1.2 is lighter and smaller than most 50mm F1.2 lenses on the market. It pairs perfectly with compact mirrorless cameras. The four XD linear motors allow Sony's autofocusing software in bodies such as the Sony A9 to reach its full potential. To put that into perspective, lots of other G Master lenses only have two XD linear motors and still have great AF speeds.
