Sony A9 III Camera Body
Recommended Underwater Housings for the Sony A9III
Read our Initial Thoughts and Review of the Sony A9 III for underwater photography
The Sony A9 III represents the next generation in Sony imaging. The Sony A9 III is the company's first full-frame camera with a global shutter. A global shutter camera is a type of camera that reads the entire sensor at once, rather than line by line. This method of ending an exposure is different from most existing shutter systems, which start and end progressively.
The advantages this brings are numerous and ground-breaking. It provides professional photographers with the fastest-ever continuous burst shooting rate at full quality, capturing 24.6MP raw and JPEG images at a speedy 120fps. There's no blackout during burst shooting, and the global shutter prevents the "rolling shutter" distortion that occasionally occurs with ordinary sensors by reading each pixel of the sensor simultaneously. possibly the most exciting advancement this bring for underwater photographers, is the fast flash sync at any shutter speed that is possible, even the maximum of 1/80,000 second. This eliminates the requirement of third-party HSS equipment.
So basically the global shutter allows you you to shoot quickly moving subjects and camera movements, such as panning alongside cyclists, without having to worry about your images turning out distorted. There are surprisingly few compromises in this full-frame camera's record-breaking mode.
Other exciting advancements include:
- Pre-Capture: It is possible to set up the a9 III to start taking pictures to the buffer as soon as the shutter button is partially depressed. The range for users to set this is 0.05-1.0 seconds. These pictures will be stored on the memory card as soon as the shutter is released.
- Speed boost: The amazing 120 fps maximum speed of the A9 III is not necessary for every shot. Users may quickly adjust their camera from their typical continuous shooting frame rate to a quicker one with Speed Boost and the C5 button, which is conveniently located close to the grip on the front of the camera, to ensure their next photo is perfect. Up to 120 frames per second, photographers will have a selection of frame rates.
- Video Capture: The a9 III records UHD 4K video at up to 60 frames per second by capturing and downsampling the entire 6K image area. Additionally, it can record in 4K at up to 120 frames per second without cropping.
- Dual CFexpress Card Slots: The a9 III's dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots offer versatility, enabling customers to fully utilize the faster CFexpress alternatives or utilize their current media to fully capitalize on the device's increased speed.
- Multi-angle Touchscreen: 3.2" 4-axis, 2.1m-dot touchscreen LCD with multiple angles, which we initially saw on the a7R V. The DCI-P3 space is covered by this screen's broad color gamut.
These Sony A9 III underwater housings are the ones we advise using while submerging your camera.
